My Introduction

Hello, I would like to introduce myself and express my thoughts about vlogs. Two things I thought about how vlogs represent our deaf community and recongize sign languages.

Hahaha - that's exactly how I felt when I tried to do my vlog (never mind if I will EVER do it, heck no) - with an exasperated sigh (because I was terrified!) at the end!! hehe.

I agree it makes a lot of impact with vlogs and I, too, have picked up a few signs!

I also agree we need more diversity - like american africans (come on you all), for example and we also need more females!!

(SurdoBitch, I'm looking at you, yes!!!)

Welcome! :D

Very nice! I love that facial expression at the end of your vlog. I know what it means! LOL. You will improve with time. I do look forward to visiting your site.
iammine is correct that we need more Deaf women to do vlogs.

Nice start. Granted you will learn some new signs from vlogs like I did (i.e., Tent City), but I do not think vlog is a platform for non-signers or poor signers to learn ASL. There is much more depth into this language and it requires training not captioning, IMO. And oh, "diversity" sign is changed into a 180 degrees flatline sign, no 'ups and downs.' ;)Happy vlogging.

Not sure I agree with your drmzz...I've learned other languages and immersion is about the best way..."training" doesn't make any sense, you don't train (hearing) children in English.

I'm in the process of learning ASL and the vlogs I find very helpful to integrate the learning (vocabulary, etc) including speed, expression, etc.

I'll be attending some deaf events soon; I don't expect to understand everything but that won't bother me, I'm quite used to that ;-)

BEG, what I mean by "training" is taking classes and social interactions. If you want to understand half or less from what's being expressed from vlogs, be my guest. There is a reason for every sign, motion, facial expressions, and so on. I believe ASL requires some pre-learning before you move up to that level. Good luck!

Thanks Tad! You inspire me. I am hoping to start my own vlog in the near future. I have the same sentiments you have about the importance of vlog in this new era of Deaf people.
